Lameness diagnosis and treatment:
We are committed to keeping your equine athletes performing at their best.
The doctor will perform a complete lameness examination. This includes palpation of the limbs, hoof-tester examination and a moving exam, either in hand or under saddle including flexion tests. This may involve diagnostic nerve blocks, in which local anesthetic is injected to temporarily block sensation from specific parts of the limb. Once the region causing pain is identified, we can then proceed to diagnostics, including radiography or ultrasonography.
After diagnosis, we will prescribe a treatment plan. Treatment may include the administration of systemic anti-inflammatories, intra-articular injections, bisphosphonates, regenerative medicine or other complementary systemic therapeutics.
